The Firefox browser for Mobile
Mozilla’s Firefox For Mobile:
(Fennec a miniature version)
A great news for all cell phone users, the Fennec mobile browser is now available. This is Mozilla’s Firefox for mobile, which is just a miniature version of the web browser. Fennec is only available for download to developers and testers at this moment, but it is getting closer to a consumer launch.
The browser seemed to render pages relatively truly using Firefox's Gecko engine, though it mangled some font spacing and offers no viewing options. I couldn't find a way to get a columnar rather than full-screen view, for instance, or switch between mobile-formatted and PC-formatted versions of pages. I couldn't even figure out how to fit the page to the screen, though double-tapping on content let me switch between two zoom levels.
Know Your Mobile warns us not to rush and download Fennec, as it is only a developer release; as a result it is full of bugs and performs slowly. The development team are working hard at the moment to help improve the mobile browser.
Fennec's plug-in architecture is very intriguing. But until it becomes much faster and easier to use, it's no threat to Opera Mobile on Windows Mobile.
